Returning To School: Best Practices and Procedures

As schools restart, whether virtually or in-person, everyone’s main concern is keeping students and teachers safe. For schools reopening in-person, safety means highly effective cleaning. We at MA Building Services have brought our expertise to clients such as Arlyn School, The Learning Experience, The Goddard School, and The Gardner School, and we’ve learned a thing or two.

When it comes to recurring janitorial programs in any high infection environment, such as a school, cleaning for health is key. MA Building Services follows a 2-step process when it comes to cleaning and disinfecting.

  • Cleaning: defined as the removal of dirt, dust, and grime

  • Disinfecting: defined as the killing/stabilizing of bacteria and other harmful containments

When cleaning, we use a color-coded microfiber towel system to negate cross contamination and ensure that the process is completed thoroughly.

In the disinfecting stage, we execute a process called electrostatic spraying. This process eliminates the element of human error and ensures that 100% coverage is provided to all areas and surfaces, including school lockers, desks, chairs, and all touch points.

Strong team oversight is also essential for an effective cleaning and disinfecting program. All of our crews have a working supervisor as part of the nightly crew. They spend part of their time cleaning and the other part overseeing and checking to ensure all areas of the scope of have been completed to standard. We also have assigned area managers doing random “spot checks” roughly every two weeks and monthly site audits conducted by the director of operations.

MA Building Services is proud to partner with our educational clients. Contact us today to see how we can help you create a safe and sanitized environment for your students and staff.
